Samsung rolled out a security patch to its two budget models in April as an interim update. It started rolling out in Europe and is slowly rolling out to the rest of the world. If you have these models, go to your settings and check for the update.
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy S23 FE will receive a security update in April
First, the update applies to both LTE and 5G variants of the Galaxy S20 FE with Snapdragon processor and carries build numbers G780GXXS9EXC6 and G781BXXSAHXC6.
The Galaxy S20 FE is Samsung’s first Galaxy S series phone designed for fans. Released in late 2020, it is the only Galaxy S20 model that continues to receive monthly security updates. The other models, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy S20 Ultra, switched to a quarterly security update schedule after completing their four-year market period.
The Galaxy S20 FE also started receiving quarterly updates along with other models, but this was corrected as a bug. The S20 FE, which will now receive monthly updates for at least five more months, will reach the same update frequency as its siblings when it turns four years old.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S23 FE model with Exynos processor started receiving a security update in April. This update upgrades the device’s security patch to April 1, 2024 and carries the build number S711BXXS2CXD1.
If the update is available, it can be downloaded over the air from your device’s Settings ” Software update ” Download and install menu. An alternative method is to download the full firmware file of the update and install it on the device via Windows PC.
The focus of the updates for both models is on security improvements. So if you have these devices and the update is available, don’t forget to do it.
