Samsung has announced Auto DeX, its new system designed to reshape the in-car digital experience. Auto DeX, which works exclusively with Galaxy devices, is touted as a new alternative to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is available on Samsung phones running One UI 7 and later.
Samsung Offers a New Experience with Auto DeX
Auto DeX activates when a Galaxy phone is connected to the vehicle’s display. Once connected, the user is asked if they want to switch to car mode. Upon confirmation, a screen with large buttons and a simple interface, specifically designed for driving, opens.

This screen is a combination of the Samsung Auto app and the DeX platform. This allows users to access the apps they may need while driving more safely and easily.
The system is equipped with several software features specifically aimed at improving driving safety. Auto DeX automatically switches to Cruise Mode when the vehicle exceeds 30 km/h (19 mph). This mode offers a simpler and more minimalist interface to prevent distractions while driving.
The interface includes smart widgets that display information such as traffic information, weather, calendar events, nearby gas stations, and parking lots. Users can also choose between a light or dark theme and customize the background.
The system’s installation is not currently fully automatic. Users must enable developer options, adjust DeX settings, install the Samsung Auto interface, and configure connection settings. After these steps are completed manually, the system becomes active.
Samsung Auto DeX is currently only officially available in the Chinese market. However, the number of vehicles it supports is significant. The system works with over 8,500 models from over 100 car brands. This extensive compatibility raises the possibility that Auto DeX could become global in the future.
