Samsung recently launched a new advertising campaign on social media, referencing and mocking its competitors, drawing consumers’ attention to a critical difference in television technology. The company strongly emphasizes that many models marketed as QLED displays do not actually feature true QLED technology.
Samsung is making a bold statement with its QLED technology
The continued decline in prices for OLED displays has led television manufacturers to consider alternative technologies like QLED. QLED stands out as a technology that filters light through tiny semiconductor crystals called quantum dots, resulting in more vibrant and bright colors.
While this technology initially gained widespread adoption with Samsung, initiatives have paved the way for other manufacturers to use the QLED name, and many television models are now sold with this designation.
Samsung’s latest advertisements, however, aim to inform consumers that they should be careful when purchasing QLED televisions. The company clearly states that an experience achieved without blue backlighting and quantum dot layers cannot be a true QLED experience.
While the ads don’t explicitly state which brands they’re referencing, the message they convey by comparing their competitors to clowns is quite striking. This reference is supported by metaphors like selling “sushi without fish,” “tacos without tortillas,” and “hot dogs without sausages,” and forms the crux of Samsung’s argument that selling QLED TVs without these components is illogical.
