Samsung, the pioneer of mobile OLED displays, has launched its latest creation: Flex Hybrid OLED. It is an OLED panel designed for futuristic devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops that can fold and slide. Flex Hybrid OLED is both foldable and expandable. The prototype combines portability with a large workspace thanks to its expandability. Specifically, the panel can go from 10.5-inch 4:3 to 12.4-inch 16:10.
Flex Hybrid OLED screen may arrive in 2024
As we said before, the 10.5-inch Flex Hybrid OLED screen from Samsung Display has a 4:3 aspect ratio, and it can be slid open from one side to turn it into a 12.4-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Thanks to this expandable width, it offers a quality viewing experience. It can also be folded and slid to take up less space when needed.
Samsung also has other new display announcements at CES 2023. For example, the prototype Slidable Flex Duet display can expand from side to side. In this way, a 14-inch screen can be turned into 17.3 inches. In addition, the display called Slidable Flex Solo expands only to one side. Like these others, this OLED-based display goes from 14 inches to 17.3 inches. These displays are expected to be used in actual products only after 2024.
2023 will be a competitive year for laptops with foldable screens
Samsung previously made noise with the news that it will introduce a foldable screen laptop in 2023. This foldable laptop will reportedly be built on a large and advanced 17.3-inch flexible OLED panel prepared by Samsung Display. According to the leaks, Samsung will not be the only name to introduce a foldable screen laptop in 2023.
As announced, computer manufacturer HP will also join this field, which shows the future. According to the shares made in HP’s model, there will be a 17-inch 4K flexible OLED from LG Display. In addition to all of them, Lenovo and Asus, which already produce laptop models with foldable screens, are also planning to update and improve their products in this area in the new year.
