The highly anticipated Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2025) has finally begun, hosting numerous exciting developments. In this context, Samsung has introduced its first smartwatch featuring a MicroLED display capable of achieving high peak brightness.
What Does Samsung’s MicroLED Smartwatch Offer?
While Samsung has only showcased a prototype for now, the brand is confident that the MicroLED display will significantly enhance the user experience. The MicroLED screen is reported to be 33% brighter than the OLED display on its other flagship, the Galaxy Watch Ultra, reaching a peak brightness of 4000 nits.
The new display is 2.1 inches in size, offering a resolution of 418 x 540 pixels. This results in a pixel density of 326 ppi. In comparison, the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s display, which has a 480 x 480 pixel resolution, offers a pixel density of 327 ppi. Historically, MicroLED panels lagged behind OLED screens in terms of pixel density, but Samsung’s new smartwatch prototype seems to have overcome this issue.

MicroLED displays, on paper, offer a significantly longer lifespan than OLED screens while retaining advantages like color quality, infinite contrast, and wide viewing angles.
