Samsung is planning a major update for its Bixby virtual assistant next year. Similar to the ChatGPT integration Apple released for Siri, Bixby is expected to be developed from scratch. So what will the revamped Bixby offer?
Revamped Bixby could be introduced in 2025
Bixby was first introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S8 in 2017. However, it struggled to be adopted by users against competitors such as Google Assistant and Siri. In this context, Samsung stopped the active development of Bixby in 2020.
Samsung Mobile President TM Roh recently confirmed that Bixby will return next year. Roh said that the revamped Bixby will improve user interactions through more natural conversations. Galaxy AI-based features will also be integrated into the assistant.
The advanced artificial intelligence model will be included in Samsung’s growing device ecosystem. In this context, Bixby is also expected to be reintroduced. TM Roh thinks that high-end Galaxy products will sell more easily thanks to the artificial intelligence update.
No date was given for the revamped Bixby, but it is thought that the re-release could be next year. It could even be announced at the Unpacked event in January with the Galaxy S25 family.
It will be difficult for Samsung to re-enter the virtual assistant space dominated by Google, Amazon and Apple. However, if the company succeeds in integrating artificial intelligence into its products, it may be welcomed by users.
