Samsung Electronics announced today that its 10.7 Gbps DRAM LPDDR5X module has been successfully tested on the MediaTek Dimensity 9400.Samsung announced the next generation of high-end RAM in April this year and said it was optimized for AI applications. The tests revealed that this new RAM performs as expected with MediaTek’s next-generation high-end SoC. Here are the details…
Specifications and performance of the Samsung’s new DRAM LPDDR5X
Engineers in Seoul paired a 16 GB capacity DRAM LPDDR5X module with a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 at 10.7 Gbps. These tests provided valuable information for both companies, as neither the new DRAM modules nor the new MediaTek SoCs are currently available on the market. Three months of intensive collaboration showed that Samsung and MediaTek’s next-generation products are ready for the market.
Samsung’s DRAM LPDDR5X module offers 25 percent more energy efficiency and performance compared to previous generation memory. These increases translate into both longer battery life and higher performance when needed. Especially in the coming years when artificial intelligence applications will increase, it will be a significant advantage for such memory to perform local AI operations on the device instead of in the cloud.
Samsung has confirmed the fastest DRAM LPDDR5X module in the industry, thanks to its strategic collaboration with MediaTek. “Samsung will continue to provide ideal solutions for AI devices,” said Samsung’s Vice President of Memory Product Planning.
“The collaboration with Samsung Electronics validates MediaTek’s next-generation Dimensity chipset by making it the first chipset in the world to achieve LPDDR5X speeds,” said JC Hsu, Senior Vice President of MediaTek. This new architecture will enable developers and users to utilize AI capabilities more often and more efficiently.
The Dimensity 9400 is expected to be available in the last quarter of 2024. According to Digital Chat Station, Taiwan’s high-end model will be based on TSMC’s 3nm N3E node, reducing energy consumption by up to 34 percent. The Dimensity 9400 will come with 1x Cortex-X5 and 3x Cortex-X4 cores.
