CES 2025 is introducing us to technologies that will perhaps mark the coming periods and about which we know very little: Samsung introduced a brand new display technology at CES 2025 that moves two-dimensional objects into the third dimension. So, how will this technology affect our lives? Here are the details…
Samsung Develops 3D Display That Becomes Reality!
Samsung Display wowed visitors at the CES 2025 fair with a display technology that can flex, bend, and even inflate. This new technology moves two-dimensional images into the third dimension by inflating like a dome from the center of the screen outward. Although still in a concept phase, this technology has the potential to revolutionize many areas in the future, from wearable devices to automotive infotainment systems.
Samsung presented two different demonstrations of its flexible display technology. One featured the Sphere venue in Las Vegas, and the other displayed a shark animation that appeared as if it would burst out of the glass. Although the 3D effect is not fully understood at first glance, a closer look reveals that the Sphere protrudes slightly from the screen, creating a sense of depth. In the shark example, the movement of the screen makes the scene more dramatic. The bulge of the screen is most noticeable when viewed from the side.
Although Samsung has not made any statement about when this flexible screen will turn into a commercial product, it pointed out some possible areas of use.
For example, interactive 3D watch faces can be used on wearable devices or 3D maps in car navigation systems. The presentations show that this technology is very suitable for animations and user interface effects. This means that we can encounter much more advanced interfaces with this technology in the future.
