Apple, one of the most prominent names in the technology market, frequently makes headlines with scams. However, this time, a very surprising situation has emerged. Two brothers from San Diego, USA, swapped 10,000 fake products with the originals.

The two brothers, Zhimin-Zhiting Liao, received 41 months of imprisonment on Monday for importing iPhone and iPad from China and exchanging counterfeit products in Apple stores in the United States and Canada. The sentencing documents included many details about the incident.

According to the information that came to light, Zhimin Liao personally visited 105 Apple stores in 22 states. This allowed him to try to exchange approximately 720 fake iPhones and iPads with the genuine ones. Prosecutors also stated that Zhiting Liao went to at least 200 Apple stores in 18 states in the United States and Canada to exchange 718 products.

The trial of the third brother, Zhiwei Liao, will take place later this month. Prosecutors also determined that the spouses of the brothers were involved in the scam. According to records, the defendants attempted to exchange more than 10,000 fake products in stores for eight years.

They later sold the genuine products they received to people in foreign countries. As a result, Apple suffered an approximate loss of $6.1 million. As part of a plea deal, the brothers relinquished more than $250,000 obtained from their shares in five residences in San Diego and their crimes.
