What is the real source of the FRBs that are said to be alien signals?
First of all, the research focuses on one signal in particular, FRB 20221022A, which is said to be an alien signal. This signal comes from a galaxy about 200 million light-years from Earth. Analysis revealed that the signal was emitted from a rotating neutron star at a distance of only 10,000 kilometers.
Researchers suggest that the strong magnetic fields around such stars, called magnetospheres, generate these radio waves. According to the new study by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the incoming signals are likely to originate from neutron stars or black holes.
Kiyoshi Masui, professor of physics at MIT, says the conditions around neutron stars with such high magnetic fields, called magnetars, are incredible:
“EVEN ATOMS CAN’T SURVIVE IN THESE AREAS; THEY ARE TORN APART BY THE MAGNETIC FIELDS. BUT THE ENERGY IN THESE REGIONS IS BENT AND RECONFIGURED INTO RADIO WAVES THAT WE CAN SEE.”
Why have alien claims been debunked?
Unfortunately, the findings may disappoint alien fans. Previously, some theories suggested that these signals were caused by advanced alien civilizations’ technology, such as “light sails”. But the new study suggests that the signals are coming from a more “earthly” source: starbursts and magnetic fields.
There has long been a debate about whether such radio emissions can escape from extreme plasma, and this study brings us a little closer to understanding the limits of the physical universe, says lead author Kenzie Nimmo:
“THIS IS A CASE WHERE WE ARE TESTING THE LIMITS OF WHAT THE UNIVERSE CAN PRODUCE.”
While there is no conclusive proof of the existence of aliens yet, such discoveries are crucial for understanding the fundamental physics of the universe. We can say that FRBs are now shedding light on the amazing nature of stars instead of alien theories.
