Google Chrome, the world’s most widely used browser, has been having some problems with its incognito tab policy in recent years. A lawsuit filed by users claiming that Google Chrome software illegally violated the privacy of millions of people was finalised today.
The lawsuit in which Google will pay 5 billion dollars has been suspended
In 2020, many users filed a class action lawsuit claiming that data was recorded and tracked by Google even though they used incognito mode in the Chrome web browser. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers initiated the litigation process.
According to a report in Reuters today, the hearing scheduled for 5 February 2024 has been suspended. US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland explained the reason for the suspension as Google and consumer lawyers reaching a preliminary agreement.
Last August, the judge rejected Google’s motion for summary judgement, noting that the company continues to collect data even when browsing in incognito mode and has never disclosed it to its users. The terms of the settlement have not yet been disclosed.
On the other hand, the lawyers state that they have agreed on a preliminary protocol with mediation. Google had previously said that incognito mode was not followed and that they opposed this decision. In the meantime, let us state again that the Google case is worth $ 5 billion.
