Signal has brought the long-awaited Windows update!
Privacy-focused messaging app Signal has added an important security feature to the Windows platform. The company announced that it will prevent Windows 11 users from taking screenshots of chats with the latest update. This feature is a direct response to the Recall feature that Microsoft introduced last year and is still a subject of debate.

Recall allows users to see what they were doing in the past by automatically saving screenshots of the system at certain intervals. The feature received a lot of backlash when it was first introduced, and Microsoft temporarily stopped distribution after these reactions.
Despite this decision, Signal emphasizes that Recall can still record sensitive content. Thanks to the new “screen security” setting, users are only faced with a black screen when they try to take a screenshot.
This setting is active by default, and users can turn it off from the Signal app settings if they wish. However, before performing this action, the app displays a warning screen stating what turning off the feature means in terms of security and asks the user for explicit consent.
Signal states that enabling the screen security setting may affect some accessibility features; It also warned that it could negatively affect screen readers in particular. However, it can be said that this side effect is a limitation that can be taken for granted in the name of protecting privacy.
