After years of radio silence, shifting expectations, and a fanbase that practically gave up hope, Silksong is real, and it’s coming fast. Team Cherry has officially confirmed the release date: September 4, 2025. The long-awaited sequel to Hollow Knight will hit Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC all at once.

The new adventure puts players in control of Hornet, a lightning-fast protagonist first seen in the original Hollow Knight. Her journey takes place in a vast new kingdom, teeming with fresh enemies, deadly traps, and towering bosses. While the tone remains dark and mysterious, gameplay has shifted to emphasize agility, vertical exploration, and faster combat.

Silksong was announced back in 2019 and quickly became the most wishlisted game on Steam. Fans feared the worst as years dragged on with no updates. But according to Team Cherry, development never stalled.

“It was always progressing,” said co-director Ari Gibson in an interview. “We’re a small team, and games take time.”

There was no drama, just slow, steady work behind the scenes.

Even after locking in the launch, Team Cherry isn’t done. “We could have kept going,” said co-founder William Pellen. That tease suggests DLC or post-launch updates may already be in the pipeline, giving fans more reasons to return beyond the base campaign.

Despite the weight of fan expectations, Silksong has several tricks up its sleeve:

    • A brand-new world filled with vertical traversal
    • Expanded combat mechanics built around speed
    • New tools, relics, and skill trees
    • Deeper environmental storytelling
    • Multi-platform launch from day one

Even next to 2025’s packed release schedule, it stands out.

Team Cherry revealed the date through a simple “special announcement” video, no fanfare, no cryptic teasers. It’s a bold move that says one thing clearly: the wait is over.
