Sony is giving the classic survival horror franchise Siren a new lease on life with a remastered re-release. According to a leaker from ResetEra who spotted entries on the PlayStation Network, the original Siren game from 2004 will be coming to modern PlayStation consoles on October 15.
Siren series classic getting a modern refresh on PlayStation
Though details are still light, the PSN listing suggests this new version of Siren has been given some quality of life improvements. It will have upgraded graphics rendering for a more visually modern feel. Players will also benefit from features like rewinding gameplay and quick saves, bringing the game in line with how classic PS1 and PS2 titles are typically handled on the PlayStation platform now.
Other PS1 and PS2 retro titles available through Sony’s streaming platforms like PlayStation Plus Premium offer things like video filters to make older games feel fresher. It’s possible this new edition of Siren could also provide similar customization options. However, it’s still unknown if the remaster will be a standalone purchase or tied to the PlayStation subscription services in some way.
Developed by SCE Japan Studio, the original Siren was a highly acclaimed survival horror game that helped pioneer new stealth and communication mechanics when it launched exclusively on PS2. This re-release gives a new generation of players a chance to experience the cult classic though with some tweaks to accommodate modern sensibilities. Officials details are still pending from Sony, but fans are anticipating the scares will continue on October 15th.
