Pebble, a seasoned player in the wearable technology market, has introduced its first ring-type device, the Pebble Index 01. With this new product, the company is pushing the boundaries of the smart ring concept.
Smart ring with microphone unveiled
Unlike competitors like Oura, which typically focus on activity and sleep tracking, the Index 01 serves a completely different purpose. Pebble describes the ring primarily as a “memory device” focused on recording voice notes. This minimalist device stands out with its low pre-order price of just $75.

With its stainless steel body and silicone button, the Index 01 boasts a simple design and lacks classic smart ring features. It doesn’t have a heart rate sensor, screen, or vibration motor.
Instead, the user activates voice recording by holding down the button, and as soon as they release it, the input is transferred to the Pebble app on the paired phone. Thanks to the local major language models (LLM) within the app, voice commands are automatically translated into actions such as setting reminders or creating to-do lists.
Pebble emphasizes that the ring doesn’t record continuously and isn’t designed for long audio recordings. The device can store up to five minutes of recording when the phone is out of range.
Recordings are automatically synced to the phone when a connection is established, clearing the ring’s storage space. Additionally, the single button can be configured for various functions, such as controlling music playback or activating smart home commands.
One of the most striking features of the Index 01 is its battery system. Unlike traditional smart rings, this model doesn’t have a rechargeable battery, and the battery cannot be replaced by the user. Pebble claims the battery inside the ring will last for several years with typical daily use (multiple short audio recordings per day).
When the battery life ends, the user can send the ring to the company for recycling. Pre-orders have begun for the Index 01, which is available in black, gold, and silver in full sizes from 6 to 13, with deliveries starting in March 2026. Following the pre-order period, the price of the ring is expected to increase to $99.
