In recent months, we’ve grown accustomed to seeing a lot of advertisements on social media applications. Now, Snapchat is joining the trend with its own advertising move. According to CEO Evan Spiegel, the popular messaging app Snapchat is bringing ads to its messaging feature. Here are the details…
Sponsored Snapchat Ads Will Appear
Although Snapchat has not yet made an official announcement, it appears that more ads will be added to the app. The “Sponsored Snap” ads will appear in the chat section, but it is still unclear how users will react to these ads.
According to announcements by CEO Evan Spiegel, Snapchat will soon begin testing sponsored content added alongside chat conversations with friends. The sponsored ads will reportedly be displayed at the top of the chat section and will appear as unread messages.
Spiegel also assured that there would be no issues with privacy, stating: “Sponsored Snaps allow advertisers to visually communicate with the Snapchat community by integrating with Snapchat’s core functionalities. As always, conversations with your friends are private and will not be used for advertising purposes.”
The reason for the upcoming test of these ads is attributed to the recent significant declines in the stock market. Snapchat’s shares, like others, have also been affected and have fallen to nearly their all-time low. Spiegel added: “The growth of digital advertising is one of the most crucial inputs for our long-term revenue potential, and investors are concerned about our slower growth.”
