One of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises, The Legend of Zelda, is finally coming to the big screen. The movie adaptation, which will be developed in collaboration with Nintendo and Sony, will follow the huge success of the Mario movie released earlier this year.
The Legend of Zelda movie is in the works
Nintendo has confirmed that it is working on a live-action movie adaptation of the Legend of Zelda video series. Shigeru Miyamoto, the game’s developer, will serve as producer, as he did on Nintendo’s last animated Super Mario Bros. movie.
The Zelda movie will be directed by Wes Ball, best known for the Maze Runner trilogy. Ball will be tasked with bringing Zelda’s iconic world of Hyrule and its legendary hero Link to life.
Miyamoto said in a statement that he has been working on the Zelda movie for many years with producer Avi Arad, known for his Marvel movies. However, Miyamoto warned gamers and moviegoers that the filming of the movie will take time.
The Legend of Zelda adaptation also revealed Nintendo’s new goals in the entertainment industry. The Zelda movie will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures, but Nintendo has pledged to cover more than 50 percent of the budget.
Time will tell if director Wes Ball will be able to successfully reflect the series in the live-action Zelda movie. It should also be underlined that no release date has been given for the new movie.
