Sony shared its financial report for the first quarter of the fiscal year that ended in late June. The resulting outcome was a mix of both positive and negative aspects. The report included various details about PlayStation 5 sales, and the revealed results were different from expectations. Here are the results from Sony’s report:
Sony exhibited a total sales increase of 33%!
In the past days, Sony shared the financial report for the company’s first quarter ending on June 30th. According to this report, the company achieved results in total sales due to significant increases in gaming and network services, music, imaging, and financial services between April and June.
In addition to all of this, the company’s total sales exhibited a 33% increase. However, the company did not disclose the exact number of consoles shipped in the report. Sony also stated that Gaming and Network Services grew by 27% annually. They mentioned that they expect sales to continue increasing in the coming months.
Alongside the positive results, there are also negative outcomes mentioned in the report. There is no information regarding the number of Xperia smartphones sold between April and June. However, it was revealed that the Entertainment, Technology, and Services segment experienced a 12% decline compared to the previous year.
When looking at the report, the remainder of the year doesn’t seem very promising for Sony. Especially, the global decline in smartphone sales is significantly affecting Sony, which is one of the largest suppliers of camera sensors.
The company’s biggest expectation is from the gaming division. On the gaming side, Sony adjusted its forecast mainly due to the increase in sales of third-party PlayStation games and content. Within this fiscal year, more captivating games are anticipated for PlayStation owners. These include Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Spider-Man 2, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Expansion, EA Sports FC, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
