Sony is developing a futuristic solution for gamers stuck on difficult levels: a new PlayStation AI assistant. According to a recently surfaced patent, this system aims to provide seamless, in-game help, potentially even taking control to beat challenging parts for the player.
How Will the PlayStation AI Assistant Work?
Based on the patent details, the system uses an advanced AI engine to analyze a player’s situation in real-time. When a player gets stuck on a puzzle or can’t defeat a tough boss, they can ask for help using natural language commands. In response, a ‘ghost’ character will appear as an overlay in the game, demonstrating the solution just like a helpful co-op partner would.
This innovation aims to eliminate the need for players to pause their game and search for walkthroughs or videos on the internet. Sony wants to keep the experience immersive. Unlike external guides that might not match the player’s exact scenario, this technology will offer instant, context-specific solutions tailored to the player’s immediate needs.

Multiple Levels of Assistance Offered
The AI assistant won’t be a one-size-fits-all solution. It will offer various levels of help based on the player’s preference. For instance, you can choose to have the ghost character simply guide you by pointing out the correct path. Alternatively, if a section is particularly frustrating, you can allow the AI to take full control and complete the challenge for you.
While the patent application was filed in 2024, the technology has only recently come to public attention. However, Sony has not yet announced a specific timeline for when this feature will be integrated into PlayStation consoles.
