SpaceX, which is building a massive network to provide satellite internet around the world, has set a record launch rate this year. With two successful launches over the weekend, the company has surpassed 2,000 Starlink satellites sent into orbit in 2025 alone. Currently, the Starlink network has more than 8,000 satellites in total.
SpaceX Gets Off to a Fast Start in 2025
SpaceX launched 28 Starlink satellites into orbit from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida on Friday. This launch also marked a milestone for the company; this mission, carried out on a Falcon 9 rocket, marked SpaceX’s 500th successful launch. With the launch of 24 more satellites on Saturday, the company’s total satellite count for the year surpassed 2,000.

SpaceX, aiming to further increase its launch count, has taken a significant step in this direction. US regulators have completed an environmental review of SpaceX’s request to increase the number of annual launches from Cape Canaveral from 50 to 120. This approval brings SpaceX one step closer to upgrading its launch license.
SpaceX’s planned launches from its Florida base indicate that its Starlink network, which has reached 8,300 satellites, will grow even faster in the coming period. The company has a long-term goal of building a network of 40,000 satellites.
