SpaceX is developing a special and large rocket called Starship to enable easier, safer, and more economical travel for humans in space. Starship will be used for missions such as space travel, interplanetary travel, and space colonization. In the coming days, Starship will attempt to orbit around the Earth and land. Here are the details.
Starship will complete a full orbit around Earth before landing!
Thanks to its ability to travel at high speeds, Starship can perform tasks such as carrying satellites in low Earth orbit, transporting passengers for space tourism, and being sent to the Moon and Mars. Additionally, the rocket can also be used for interplanetary cargo transportation missions.
Starship, which is 120 meters high, has a capacity of carrying 100 tons of cargo. Like the Falcon 9, it will be a completely reusable huge rocket called Super Heavy, and will be powered by 31 Raptor engines.
It is said that the new generation rocket engine called Raptor, which will be used by Starship, is designed to provide higher performance and better fuel efficiency. Moreover, it will be able to return to Earth as a reusable rocket. This will cause project costs to decrease from the billion-dollar to below the hundred-million-dollar.
SpaceX has already begun conducting initial test flights for Starship. A prototype of the rocket even successfully completed a high-altitude test flight in 2021. In 2023, Starship will start its first manned flights. The upcoming test will aim to orbit the Earth and make a successful landing.
