Details of the Spanish Airbus Helicopter Procurement and Agreement
This strategic program, managed by the General Directorate of Armaments and Materials (DGAM) of the Spanish Ministry of Defence, aims to strengthen the country’s defense and security assets. The agreement covers four different helicopter models to meet the needs of the Army, Air Force, and Navy. The helicopters to be procured and their assigned roles are as follows:

- 13 H135s: 12 for the Air Force and 1 for the Navy, to be used for advanced pilot training and light duty missions. 50 H145M helicopters: All allocated to the Army (FAMET), this model will undertake critical tasks such as military pilot training, light attack, and disaster relief.
- 6 H175M helicopters: To be used by the Air Force for government missions and transport of authorized personnel, replacing aging fleets.
- 31 NH90 helicopters: These helicopters, to be distributed among the Army, Air Force, and Navy, will play an active role in tactical transport and special operations missions.
Spanish Undersecretary of Defence María Amparo Valcarce García emphasized the importance of the agreement, stating, “This investment is a strategic move focused on significantly increasing Spain’s security and defence capabilities.” Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even stated that this acquisition is a concrete demonstration of the National Helicopter Plan and that they are proud to strengthen Spain’s national defence resilience.
This massive acquisition not only increases military capacity but also makes a significant contribution to the Spanish economy. The agreement is expected to create more than 300 new direct and qualified jobs within the next three years. Furthermore, Airbus’s industrial footprint in Albacete will grow significantly.
In addition, a new military helicopter customization center and an international H145M pilot and technician training center will be established in Albacete. Airbus aims to transform the Albacete facility into a Center of Excellence for digital capabilities. Within this framework, a Digital Campus project focusing on cybersecurity and the development of digital tools will also be implemented.
