Spotify, the leading platform in the online music streaming market, announced a price increase for its subscriptions in Turkey. Student subscriptions have been increased from 32.99 TL to 55 TL per month, the Duo package from 79.99 TL to 135 TL per month, and the Family package from 99.99 TL to 165 TL per month. Along with the price increase, the company also removed one-month free trials.

Just before the price increase, Spotify founder and CEO Daniel Ek announced that he would be stepping down after nearly two decades. Ek will become chairman of the company’s board of directors on January 1, 2026. He will be succeeded by Spotify’s co-presidents, Alex Norström and Gustav Söderström.
Spotify also attracted attention before the price hikes were announced when the Turkish Competition Authority launched a new investigation. According to the Competition Authority’s official statement, the investigation focuses on Spotify’s activities in the music streaming services market.
The investigation focuses on two main allegations. The first allegation is discrimination. The Board is examining whether Spotify discriminates between rights holders in its playlist inclusion, ranking, visibility, and recommendation algorithms.
The second allegation is predatory pricing. The investigation examines whether Spotify’s subscription prices in Turkey are set so low as to hinder the market activities of its competitors or rights holders.
