Ever felt regret right after handing over the music control to one of your friends while hanging out? You’re not alone in this. Many people around the world, including myself, face this issue. Luckily, Spotify is introducing a new feature that removes the playlist control from a single person, providing a lasting solution to this problem. Introducing… Spotify Jam!
Spotify Jam: A New Way to Listen with Friends
The world’s most popular music streaming platform, Spotify, continues to introduce new features. The latest addition is “Jam”. Spotify Jam is a unique feature allowing members of a group to listen to music together, enhancing the group music listening experience.
With Spotify Jam, Premium users can join a shared song queue and invite others to contribute, ensuring a music experience tailor-made for everyone currently listening. Think of it like a WhatsApp group dedicated to music listening.
To start a Jam, a Premium user selects a playlist, song, or album. Then, by clicking the “Connect” button at the bottom of your screen or selecting the three dots next to your favorite playlist, album, or song, you’ll see the “Start Jam” option.
You can select a device to play the songs; be it your phone or a speaker. If others in your shared Wi-Fi network want to join, they can instantly become part of the Jam. You can then invite friends (either Premium or Free users) using any of three methods:
Everyone in the Jam can add songs to the queue from their device, see who added which song, and get suggestions.
The owner of the Jam session can also decide who is in the Jam, rearrange the song order, or remove a song that doesn’t fit the mood.
Moreover, the owner has the option to allow “Guest Controls”, letting everyone in the session rearrange or remove tracks. When “Guest Controls” are off, only the Jam session owner can modify the queue.
As of today, Jam is available globally for all Premium and Free Spotify users. To experience Jam, ensure your app is up-to-date.
