Music fans can now discover the Spotify song stories behind their favorite tracks thanks to a new feature officially announced by the streaming giant. This new addition, titled “About the Song,” is currently rolling out in beta and aims to provide listeners with deeper insights into the inspiration, meaning, and creation process of the music they love, directly within the app.
How the New Spotify Song Stories Feature Works
Previously, curious listeners often had to leave the Spotify app to search for information about a compelling song. With this update, that extra step is no longer necessary. Users can simply access the “Now Playing” screen and scroll down to find a series of informative, scrollable cards. These cards present concise summaries and interesting anecdotes about the track’s background.
The information is compiled from various third-party sources, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the song’s purpose and creation. This allows for a more immersive listening experience, connecting fans more closely with the artists and their work. The feature is designed to be seamless and intuitive, enriching the user experience without being intrusive.

Beta Launch and Future Plans
As the “About the Song” feature is still in its beta phase, its availability is currently limited. It is accessible exclusively to Premium subscribers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. Furthermore, the feature is available on both iOS and Android devices but currently only supports English.
This move is seen by many as Spotify’s renewed effort to create its own in-house editorial and storytelling content. The company previously collaborated with Genius on a similar feature called “Behind the Lyrics” but later shifted focus to developing its own lyrics infrastructure. Spotify has stated that it will continue to develop “About the Song” based on feedback from both artists and listeners, suggesting a wider rollout could happen in the future.
