Spotify has announced a new AI and spam policy that will lead to the removal of numerous songs from its digital music platform. The company is introducing new rules to combat the increasing prevalence of AI-generated and spam content on the platform and has announced that it will no longer allow content that imitates other artists’ voices without permission.
Spotify declares war on AI-generated content
Spotify, one of the most popular music apps, is emphasizing that the rapid development of AI tools is disrupting many artists. In response, the platform is implementing a new AI policy. Under this policy, songs created using deepfake technology, which makes it appear that other artists have sung songs they didn’t, are not permitted.

The new rules give artists greater control. If a singer’s voice is detected being used without permission, those songs will be removed from the platform. Artists’ voices can be imitated with AI and used in songs, but only with the artist’s permission.
Spotify also announced that it will take stricter action against spam content. The platform noted that payments, which were $1 billion in 2014, will reach $10 billion by 2024, emphasizing that this large sum attracts the attention of malicious actors. According to Spotify, abuse of AI tools and bulk uploads have become common. Such tracks will no longer be detected and recommended on the platform.
