Lucasfilm has officially announced Star Wars: Starfighter film officially announced. With the announcement made at the Star Wars Celebration event held in Tokyo, the long-rumoured film project has gained clarity.
Star Wars: Starfighter, officially unveiled
Shawn Levy will sit in the director’s chair and Ryan Gosling will star in the lead role. The film is scheduled to be released on 28 May 2027. Director Levy, known for productions such as Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things and Free Guy, has been working on a Star Wars project for a while.
Star Wars: Starfighter will be the second next-generation Star Wars film to reach cinemas after The Mandalorian & Grogu. Written by Jonathan Tropper, the film will be set in a time period after the main trilogy, but will not be directly connected to it.
Shawn Levy stated that Starfighter is not a prequel or a sequel; it presents a completely independent story. This distinguishes the film from the classic Star Wars series.
So far, only Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling’s names have been officially announced for the film, which will start production in autumn 2025. However, the names of Jodie Comer and Jesse Plemons are also rumoured.
