Starlink is eagerly counting down the days to begin its operations in Turkiye. Recently, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ömer Fatih Sayan, announced that the company has applied to start operations in the country and that the application is under consideration. While these developments are ongoing, CEO Elon Musk has discreetly appointed a General Manager for Starlink Turkiye.
Kemal Geçer, formerly the General Manager for Tesla Turkiye, has been appointed as the General Manager for Starlink Turkiye
The collaboration between Elon Musk and Turkiye seems to be intensifying. Tesla’s recent launch in Turkiye, Starlink’s application, Musk’s visit to the Turkish House in New York, and the possibility of him attending the Izmir Teknofest, all hint at the strengthening ties in the future. There are even rumors about Tesla possibly opening a factory and starting production in Turkiye.
Now, Musk has made a significant appointment for Starlink Turkiye operations. Kemal Geçer, who has been serving as the General Manager for Tesla Turkiye, has also been appointed to the same role for Starlink. This decision was recently published in the Trade Registry Gazette. Kemal Geçer, a very successful businessman, was previously the General Manager of Lufthansa Airlines.
This move is more significant than it might seem. Sadly, many foreign brands have had a tendency to appoint foreign general managers in Turkiye. Given this context, Elon Musk’s choice of a Turkish individual for two crucial operations is noteworthy.
Unfortunately, we still don’t know when Starlink will start its operations in Turkiye and what the pricing will be. However, we hope that Kemal Geçer, given his understanding of the market, will do his best for local pricing.
What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you think Starlink Turkiye will start its operations soon? If your answer is yes, when do you predict it will begin, and what will the fee be? Please share your opinions in the comments section.
