Time to Say Goodbye: Steam is cutting support for old Windows versions!

With the withdrawal of support from major companies, it is no surprise that Windows 7 and Windows 8 are now being phased out. Starting from 2020 and 2023, most software companies, including Microsoft, ended support for Windows 7 and 8. According to a recent announcement, Steam will also stop supporting Windows 7 and 8 starting from January 1, 2024.

Steam is ending Support for Windows 7 and 8!

Steam Support announced today that it will no longer support Windows 7 and 8 from January 1, 2024. You can click here to see the announcement. But what does this mean exactly? PCs running Windows 7 and Windows 8 (including 8.1) will no longer be able to run Steam.

The Steam Support page recommends that users update to newer versions like Windows 10 and Windows 11 in order to access Steam Client, Library, Workshop, and Community Forums.

Future versions of Steam will require Windows Security Updates and features that are only available on Windows 10 and 11. Microsoft has already stopped providing Security Updates for Windows 7 and 8.Starting from January 1, 2024, Steam will officially end support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 operating systems.

After this date, Steam Client will not work on these Windows versions. Users who want to continue running Steam and any games or products purchased on Steam will need to upgrade to a newer version of Windows.
