Valve has renewed the in-game performance monitoring tools of its digital gaming platform Steam with a comprehensive update. The new FPS counter, which the company introduced in the beta version; not only shows the frame rate per second, but also shares much more detailed system data with players such as CPU and GPU usage, temperature, RAM and VRAM status.
Steam is launching the new FPS counter
Steam’s previous FPS counter only showed the instant frame rate during the game. However, with the new system, players will now be able to choose between several different views. The options include only the FPS value, FPS data presented with the graphics, FPS with processor and graphics card usage, or a detailed view showing all system resources.

In addition, the corner of the screen, in what size, and in what order this data will be displayed can be customized by the user. Valve states that the new performance counter will help players detect system bottlenecks.
The company stated that this feature will easily understand whether the CPU or GPU is limiting the game’s performance. In addition, it will be possible to directly track whether resources such as system memory or video memory are exhausted. This information allows a clearer view of system limits, especially in games that require high performance.
This innovation, which is only available to beta users, will be offered to all users in the future. When the update is available for general use, it can be activated under the “In-Game” tab of the Settings menu.
