Master of science fiction, Steven Spielberg, returns to the big screen with his new UFO and alien-themed project, Disclosure Day. The first trailer, released by Universal Pictures, is being described as Spielberg’s darkest and most mysterious return to the genre since his cult classics like “E.T.” and “War of the Worlds.”
Disclosure Day is here!
Starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, the film centers on the shocking discovery of evidence of extraterrestrial life and its global impact on 7 billion people. Based on an original idea by Spielberg, the screenplay was written by David Koepp, who previously worked with the master director on “Jurassic Park” and “War of the Worlds.”
The trailer, in particular, shows a television reporter, played by Emily Blunt, experiencing strange seizures and making unidentified noises during a live broadcast, sparking considerable interest among viewers. While discussions have begun on social media about whether these sounds are connected to an alien language or subliminal messages, Josh O’Connor’s character’s lines emphasizing the need for “all the truth to be revealed at once” highlight the political and social tension of the story.
The film also features strong names such as Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo. The visuals of this long-secret project are complemented by the music of legendary composer John Williams, with whom Spielberg is collaborating for the 30th time.
Signaling themes such as a cellular-level invasion or a wave of consciousness, Disclosure Day offers a psychological thriller atmosphere unlike traditional alien invasion films. The absence of a direct spaceship or alien figure in the trailer reflects the director’s preference for maintaining an element of mystery.
The film, which is also said to feature Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana in the cast, is scheduled for a global release on June 12, 2026.
