Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company’s vision for artificial intelligence in a public letter published on July 31, 2025. Zuckerberg stated that “personal superintelligent” assistants, which each individual can use to meet their own goals, will become a part of daily life. Meta’s vision will be realized through wearable technologies, with smart glasses being the primary device type.
Meta will bring superintelligence to smart glasses
The letter stated that artificial general intelligence (AGI), capable of processing information at levels exceeding human capacity, is no longer a distant future. Zuckerberg stated that progress in this field is slow but undeniable, emphasizing Meta’s commitment to the issue.

Zuckerberg’s letter included not only technical objectives but also philosophical and strategic messages. It emphasized that Meta’s approach differs from other players in the industry. The company’s goal is not for superintelligence to replace humans or establish basic income distribution systems.
Zuckerberg stated that Meta is developing superintelligence to transform individuals into tools that serve their own goals. This approach indirectly points to a position opposite OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s frequently-stated vision of a “universal basic income.”
Wearable smart glasses stand out among the products that embody Meta’s superintelligence vision. Zuckerberg stated that personalized eyewear, not smartphones, will be the primary computing devices of the future.
The Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta Performance AI glasses, developed in this direction, are the result of the company’s partnership with EssilorLuxottica. It was reported that the AI-enabled features offered by the glasses transformed the user experience and tripled the company’s revenue.
