Microsoft has issued a critical reminder that concerns millions of users. Support for Windows 10 officially ends on October 14, 2025. After this date, the operating system will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support.
Windows 10 is a lie
According to Microsoft’s announcement, the 22H2 version of Windows 10 (including Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise) will completely lose update support in October. Similarly, the extended support period for 2015 LTSB and 2015 IoT Enterprise LTSB will end. The company’s final security patch will be distributed in October. After this date, users’ devices will be vulnerable to new threats.

With the end of support, Microsoft offers users two main options. The first option is to upgrade compatible devices to Windows 11 or to migrate to cloud-based solutions through Windows 365.
The second option is the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. Thanks to this program, users will be able to continue receiving security patches for an annual fee, even after Windows 10 support ends. The annual pricing is $30 for individuals and $61 for enterprise customers, and it can be offered free of charge under certain conditions. Those who sign up with Microsoft Rewards points or activate the Windows Backup feature will receive free ESU. Virtual machines and Windows 365 devices will also be included at no additional cost.
Windows 10 LTSC versions developed for special-purpose devices will continue to receive update support for a longer period. For example, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 will be supported until January 12, 2027, and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 will be supported until January 9, 2029.
According to Microsoft data, a significant portion of users have already migrated to Windows 11. According to Statcounter’s August 2025 report, Windows 11’s adoption rate rose to 53 percent, while Windows 10 remained at 42 percent. Steam data shows that Windows 11 leads among gamers with 60 percent, while Windows 10 remains preferred by 35 percent.
Microsoft’s 30-day warning serves as a reminder that Windows 10 users need to make a swift decision in the coming period.
