Apple recently unveiled the iPad mini 7, updating its affordable tablet family after many years. However, the tablet still uses an LCD screen. Accordingly, the latest leaks indicate that the mini 8 will switch to OLED display technology.
iPad mini 8 may finally come with OLED
According to analyst Ross Young, the iPad mini will switch to OLED display technology with the next generation. In his latest statement, Young said that the iPad mini, which is scheduled to be released in a few years, will have an OLED display. This represents a new era compared to the iPad mini 7, which features an LCD display.
The OLED display offers many advantages over LCDs, including higher contrast ratios, truer blacks and improved power efficiency. This promises a better display experience and longer battery life across the iPad mini lineup.
This report is in line with Apple’s plans to switch more devices to OLED. The iPad Pro series has switched to OLED in recent years. Recent rumors suggest that the iPhone SE, iPad Air and MacBook Pro could follow a similar strategy in the coming years.
Since the iPad mini 7 has just been released, an iPad mini 8 with OLED display is expected to debut in 2026 or 2027 at the earliest. The mini series has had a slower release cycle in recent years compared to other iPads.
The iPad mini 7 had exactly the same design as its predecessor, with some improvements in performance. Accordingly, it switched to the A15 Pro, the same chip as the iPhone 17 Pro.
