Nintendo is working diligently to improve the backward compatibility of its next-generation console, the Switch 2. The company’s latest Switch 2 update rebalanced the library. While these patches fixed annoying bugs in some popular games, unfortunately, some legendary games became unplayable.
Games that run smoothly: NieR and Doom restored
Nintendo’s latest firmware update has particularly pleased action and RPG enthusiasts. The following games, which previously experienced crashes or graphical glitches, have been completely resolved. These games now run smoothly with the new console’s hardware power:

- NieR: Automata: Performance issues in previous versions have been resolved.
- Doom + Doom 2: The classic FPS suite now runs flawlessly.
- Guardian Tales: Gameplay has been smoothed.
- Skies Above: Graphical glitches have been fixed.
- Sugardew Island: Crashing issues have been resolved.
- Super Mega Baseball 4: Optimized for sports enthusiasts. Timespinner: Platform game has been made smoother.
Unfortunately, the update didn’t cure every game; it even worsened some. Capcom’s masterpiece, Resident Evil 4, in particular, experienced a serious progression bug following this update, causing disappointment among players. The newly problematic games added to the list are as follows:
- Resident Evil 4: Critical bugs have been identified that prevent players from progressing through the story.
- Blades of Darkness: Like RE4, progress stops at certain points in the game.
- Sports Party: A rather curious bug exists; if players wait 30 seconds on the title screen, the game crashes. To avoid this bug, they must quickly move past the screen.
Nintendo’s own Pokemon series continues to struggle. Technical glitches in the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games, reported in early November, have not been resolved despite the release of version 21.0.1. Player feedback confirms that visual glitches and performance drops persist.
Nintendo is expected to release an urgent fix for Resident Evil 4 and Pokemon in the coming weeks.
