Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind blockbuster franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and 2K Sports, explained why it offers only a limited selection of its games on subscription platforms like Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus. The company shared the economic and strategic reasons behind this approach during a recent investor meeting.
Economic sense must benefit both sides
Take-Two President Karl Slatoff stated at an investor meeting earlier this month that they occasionally include some of their games on subscription services. He described these platforms as “great partners” but emphasized that any collaboration needs to be economically viable for both parties.

Slatoff also pointed out that this applies not only to Take-Two but to the platforms themselves, meaning any deal must be mutually beneficial financially.
Similarly, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously remarked that adding brand-new games to Game Pass or PS Plus from day one doesn’t make much sense. He explained that even a high-profile title like Call of Duty only causes a short-term increase in subscriptions when added immediately at launch.
