Disney Plus, which was recently in the news for suffering significant losses, has achieved a significant victory over Netflix. The rights to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour film have been acquired by Disney Plus, despite Netflix’s involvement.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is officially a Disney Plus content!
It was announced that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, featuring exclusive footage from various concerts of the popular pop singer, will be available on the Disney Plus platform starting from March 15, 2024. Additionally, it was noted that some songs unheard by Swift fans before will be included as bonus content in the film.
It is claimed that the broadcast rights of the film, which is said to have witnessed an intense competition between Disney and Netflix, were acquired by Disney Plus for a whopping $75 million after lengthy negotiations. However, neither party has officially confirmed this amount. Additionally, it is rumored that Universal Pictures also participated in this race by offering significant amounts.
Financially struggling Disney Plus’s victory against its main competitor Netflix brought hope to Disney management. However, it is still known that millions of users are rapidly abandoning the platform.
It is alleged that the main reason for this loss of members is the significant price hikes in subscription fees. Especially due to the price increases made in October of last year, many users decided not to renew their Disney Plus subscriptions.
