“Last week at the DisplayWeek 2024 conference in California, TCL showcased its new technologies, making history by introducing the world’s first 4K 1000Hz monitor. Previously, Asus achieved a 540Hz refresh rate with the ROG Swift PG248QP monitor, and BenQ reached the same milestone with the ZOWIE XL2586X monitor. As SID 2024 (Society for Information Display) continues, the company is once again breaking new ground. TCL introduced its first triple-foldable phone.
A phone that can fold on both sides
In fact, TCL began working on this phone back in 2019, and at that time, a prototype of this phone was shown to us. But now the phone is finished, and TCL is introducing the world’s first triple-foldable phone at SID 2024 in its final form. A standout feature of this foldable phone is its 7.85-inch display when fully unfolded, allowing it to be used as a tablet.
Called the freeform type, this screen can take on flat, Z, and G configurations. While the previous version of this phone had an issue with being excessively thick, TCL solves this problem with a new panel that measures just 427 microns thick. The foldable phone also features under-display sensors for 3D facial scanning. The entire screen, including the under-display sensor area, boasts a color density of 420 PPI.
The display panel also utilizes LTPO technology, allowing the device to adjust its refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz for optimal power efficiency. While TCL introduced the phone recently, unfortunately, detailed information and when it will go into mass production are not shared yet. There are rumors suggesting that Huawei and Samsung might release larger phones.
