Tesla and Uber Freight have partnered to accelerate the transition to electric heavy-duty transportation. The two companies have launched a program called the “Dedicated EV Fleet Accelerator Program.” This program aims to reduce the high upfront costs that are one of the biggest obstacles to electric heavy-duty trucks.
Tesla’s Semi Trucks Will Offer Cost Advantages
Under the program, fleet owners who purchase Tesla’s electric Semi Trucks will receive price support. The trucks will integrate with Uber Freight’s pre-planned route and loading networks, as well as Tesla’s Semi Charging network.

This integration will allow fleets to use the trucks efficiently and predict their revenue. Uber Freight aims to ensure a return on investment through consistent, high-quality load matches.
This partnership reflects a similar strategy Uber has previously implemented with Tesla vehicles in passenger transportation. In that program, Uber drivers could purchase Tesla vehicles at a discounted rate, and Tesla integrated the Uber app into vehicle navigation. The same approach is now being implemented for Tesla Semi trucks using Uber Freight software.
The program details haven’t yet been fully disclosed. There’s no clear information about the subsidy amount Uber and Tesla will provide, nor is there a clear indication of the Tesla Semi’s current price. Prices announced in 2017 were $150,000 for the 480 km range model and $180,000 for the 800 km range model.
However, production delays have reportedly led to a “dramatic” price increase, nearly doubling these figures. Mass production of the Tesla Semi is expected to begin in 2026. The manufacturer has also begun installing Megacharger stations specifically designed for commercial electric vehicles.
