Tesla has launched a paid performance upgrade option for the refreshed 2026 Model Y. The software, named “Acceleration Boost,” was first noticed by Tesla community members over the weekend and quickly circulated on social media.
New Model Y Gets Faster for $2,000
The new software enhancement is available for the Long Range AWD version of the updated Model Y and can be purchased via the Tesla mobile app for $2,000. Once installed, the upgrade adds approximately 100 additional horsepower, reducing the vehicle’s 0 to 60 mph acceleration time from 4.6 seconds to 4.2 seconds.

This Acceleration Boost marks the first paid software enhancement introduced specifically for the new Model Y. While the Long Range AWD variant already offers high performance with its standard hardware, the update elevates the driving experience to an even higher level.
Though the performance gain may seem minor, Tesla’s ability to implement such enhancements purely through software continues to be a key differentiator. This development comes shortly after Tesla concluded production of the Model Y Launch Series and shifted U.S. sales exclusively to the Long Range AWD version.
Previously, the Model Y was offered in three variants: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), Long Range AWD, and Performance. Following the Juniper refresh, there has been speculation over whether RWD and Performance models will return, but for now, only the Long Range AWD is available in the U.S.—a contrast to the lineup offered in Turkey.
In this context, the $2,000 Acceleration Boost package presents an appealing option for users seeking greater acceleration, especially since the Performance variant has not yet been reintroduced. The software-based nature of the upgrade allows owners to increase motor output without any physical modifications to the vehicle.
