Tesla has temporarily suspended mass production of its humanoid robot project, Optimus, due to serious technical issues with its hand and arm design. These issues forced the company to reduce its production target for the end of 2025 from 5,000 units to 2,000 units.
Glitches in Optimus Robots Revealed
According to the latest reports, Tesla is reportedly experiencing difficulties with the design of its hands and arms. Sources familiar with the project say engineers are struggling to develop a flexible and agile mechanism similar to a human hand.

This has led to a temporary halt in mass production. A large number of robot bodies, devoid of hands and forearms, are reportedly accumulating in the company’s warehouses, but no specific timeline has been given for their completion.
Elon Musk confirmed the design issues in a podcast appearance, but did not specify a date for the resumption of production. Tesla first noticed these technical issues last summer and decided to reduce its production target at that time.
As new problems arose, the company redirected its resources to mechanical improvements and design revisions. Tesla initially targeted production of at least 5,000 Optimus robots by the end of 2025, but reduced this number to 2,000 units after engineers deemed the target unrealistic. This revised plan suggests that the robot’s development process has become more complex than anticipated.
Elon Musk has previously stated that developing human-like hand movements was the most challenging phase of the design process. Despite this, Musk remains confident in the Optimus project. What are your thoughts on this? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
