Tesla is launching its driverless robotaxi service this month. The company’s CEO Elon Musk announced that the first public robotaxi application will be launched in Austin, USA, on June 22. The announcement came after footage of Model Y vehicles being tested without a driver on the streets of Austin in recent weeks.
Tesla is launching its robotaxi service
Tesla’s robotaxi service is seen as a concrete step in the company’s goal of fully autonomous driving. Only about 10 driverless vehicles will be used at the start of the service. These vehicles will operate in a limited area determined in Austin. Elon Musk said that if the system is successful, more vehicles will be put into operation quickly.

Model Y vehicles without a driver were seen during the tests on the streets. These vehicles bear the word “Robotaxi”, while the font choice resembles the design specific to Tesla’s Cybertruck model.
At the same time, another Model Y vehicle was recorded following these driverless vehicles from a very close distance. It was seen that there was a driver in the tracking vehicle, but it is not known whether the person was on duty.
Tesla will initially provide service by monitoring the driverless vehicles remotely and limiting the operation to certain safe areas. Musk had previously stated that fully autonomous vehicles will be gradually expanded.
In this context, June 22 stands out as the first step of the company’s robotaxi fleet. However, Elon Musk describes this date as “temporary”. In other words, there is still a possibility of a possible postponement. So what do you think about this issue? You can share your views with us in the comments section below.
