Tesla Model S Plaid breaks the Nurburgring electric vehicle lap record
Nurburgring track has become a battlefield for many brands in recent times. Electric cars have also started to have a say in the competition as many manufacturers strive to achieve lap records. The two standout cars in this regard are the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Taycan.
The competition started in 2019 when the Porsche Taycan broke the Nurburgring electric vehicle lap record. The rivalry intensified in 2021 when the Tesla Model S Plaid claimed the record with a lap time of 7:35.579. Since then, the competition between the two companies has been escalating.

In 2022, Porsche took back the Nürburgring production electric vehicle lap record with the Taycan Turbo S. Tesla’s response to break the record didn’t take long. Tesla equipped its flagship model with a Track Package and returned to Nurburgring.
With new brakes and tires, the Tesla Model S managed to reclaim the record from Porsche. The Model S Plaid improved the record by approximately 8 seconds with a time of 7 minutes and 25.231 seconds, sending a clear message to its rival.
With the time achieved by the Tesla Model S Plaid, it positioned itself between the Ferrari Enzo and the Mercedes-AMG SLS Black Series. Its place in the ranking of the fastest laps at Nurburgring once again confirms the success of the electric vehicle.
