Tesla has initiated a large recall process for certain 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in the U.S. According to data from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a total of 376,241 vehicles will be recalled. Here’s the reason for the recall:
Tesla Recalls 376,000 Vehicles in the U.S.: Issue with Steering Assistance System
The recall is due to a software glitch detected in the electronic power-assisted steering system. Tesla stated that vehicles using versions older than the 2023.38.4 software update may experience an overloaded circuit board under certain conditions. This could lead to the steering assistance system failing while the vehicle is parked or during stop-and-go movements.

Driving without steering assistance requires more physical effort, and this could risk driving safety, especially at low speeds. Tesla has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update to address the issue. The company claims the update will enhance the stability of the power assistance system, fixing the glitch.
Therefore, owners do not need to physically bring their vehicles to the service center, as Tesla can solve the issue remotely via software updates. However, there is still concern about the potential effects of software bugs in critical systems on driving safety.
