Tesla’s robotaxi service launched in the US has come to the fore with sudden braking problems in the autonomous driving system. Videos and messages shared on social media reveal moments when vehicles brake unexpectedly hard during a journey. The company’s new transportation system offered with fully autonomous vehicles has become a topic of discussion with these images.
Tesla robotaxis became a topic of discussion with sudden braking problems
In the posts shared by users on the social media platform X, it is stated that vehicles brake suddenly, especially when exposed to sunlight. In a video published about the incident, the hard braking experienced by a content producer during a journey with a Tesla robotaxi is clearly seen. The vehicle stops suddenly, the passenger is thrown and shaken seriously because the seat belt is not fastened. The car’s warning sounds are also reflected in the images.
The first explanation about the cause of the incident came from Tesla’s productive artificial intelligence system Grok. Answering questions from social media users, the system stated that Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) autonomous driving software has been experiencing performance problems due to sunlight for a long time. This situation is also included in the company’s user manuals.
Tesla’s previous documents also stated that FSD has difficulty interpreting sensor data in extreme sunlight. The fact that the problem is a known situation shows that the company is still working on this area and the solution process is ongoing.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had received more than 750 complaints about similar situations by 2022. An official investigation was opened after these complaints and some software improvements were made by Tesla.
This sudden braking problem experienced in robotaxis has once again revealed that autonomous driving systems have not yet reached the expected level. So what do you think about this issue? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
