Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has shared new developments regarding its humanoid robot, Optimus, on the X platform. A short video shared by the official Tesla Optimus account and Elon Musk shows Optimus running on a lab floor.
Optimus Takes a Level
This clip, which has gone viral on social media, showcases the robot’s new performance. Tesla Optimus stands 180 cm tall and weighs approximately 72.5 kilograms. The robot has over forty degrees of freedom, including hands with 11 degrees of freedom (DoF) designed for human-like interaction and capable of highly dexterous movements.
Optimus uses a 2.3 kWh battery that allows for nearly a full day of operation. The robot demonstrates remarkable energy efficiency, consuming only 100 W at rest and 500 W while walking.
The short video reveals that Tesla Optimus has made significant progress in balance, coordination, and gait control. Previous updates focused on the robot learning basic skills like controlled walking, object handling, and posture training.
At the same time, an eight-second, split-screen video clip quickly went viral, showing the humanoid robot’s development from May 2023 to December 2025. The first part of this video shows a group of Tesla robots taking their first steps in a factory, while the second part showcases the latest progress.
This latest development in running ability is being noted as a significant advancement that will contribute to Elon Musk’s expansive vision of deploying 5,000 Optimus robots by the end of 2025.
