Electric vehicle giant Tesla has released its much-anticipated Tesla fourth quarter results, and the numbers paint a complex picture. While the company produced hundreds of thousands of vehicles, the report also highlights a significant sales decline and reveals that its main competitor, BYD, has now claimed the top spot in the global EV market.
A Closer Look at Tesla Fourth Quarter Results
According to the company’s official report, Tesla produced a total of 434,358 vehicles in the final quarter of 2025. Of these, 418,227 were delivered to customers. The bulk of this production came from its most popular vehicles, the Model 3 and Model Y, which accounted for 422,652 units.
Looking at the full year, Tesla’s 2025 figures reached 1,654,667 vehicles produced and 1,636,129 delivered. While these numbers confirm Tesla’s massive scale, they also represent a noticeable drop compared to the previous year.

Leadership Changes in the Electric Vehicle Market
However, the most striking detail in the data was the decline in Tesla’s sales figures. The company’s deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2025 showed a 15% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. The overall decline for the year was recorded at 9%. Consequently, this downturn allowed Tesla’s biggest rival, Chinese manufacturer BYD, to claim the top position.
Furthermore, BYD’s performance was incredibly impressive. The company closed out 2025 with a total of 2,254,714 all-electric vehicle sales, becoming the new world leader in the category. This development clearly shows just how intense the competition in the EV market has become.
