The wait for the sequel to The Batman, which was released in 2022 and received positive reviews from both critics and audiences, continues. Although preparations for the sequel began immediately after the first film, the project had been delayed for years due to delays in the script development process. Warner Bros. has broken its long silence and officially announced the filming date for The Batman 2 for the first time.
The Batman 2 is Coming
Warner Bros. President David Zaslav announced in a letter to the company’s investors that filming on The Batman 2 will begin in spring 2026. This announcement officially puts production on schedule for the film’s planned release date of October 1, 2027. However, the fact that filming is still approximately eight months away from starting does not completely rule out the possibility of another delay.

Matt Reeves, who wrote and directed the first film, has repeatedly delayed the project due to difficulties in delivering the script for The Batman 2. Originally slated for release on October 3, 2025, the film missed that deadline due to a script not being completed. The studio is now focused on the new target date of October 1, 2027.
No major changes are anticipated in the cast. Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne. Zoe Kravitz (Catwoman), Colin Farrell (Penguin), Andy Serkis (Alfred), and Jeffrey Wright (Commissioner Gordon), who all appeared in the first film, will also reprise their roles. No official synopsis has been released. However, rumors suggest that the sequel may feature a different antagonist, rather than either the Penguin or the Joker.
While the future of the DC universe remains uncertain, The Batman series continues to develop independently of the main timeline. This series, which is outside the new universe overseen by DC Studios co-presidents James Gunn and Peter Safran, is considered a separate production under the “Elseworlds” banner. This means The Batman 2 will maintain its own tone and atmosphere without tying itself to the main DC storyline.
As Warner Bros. continues preparations to ramp up production, all eyes will now be on Matt Reeves’ final script and the timing of the filming process. The set is scheduled for construction in spring 2026, but given past delays, October 1, 2027, remains a cautious expectation.
