A WhatsApp bug that plagued Wear OS smartwatches and plagued users has been resolved with an update. Many Wear OS smartwatch owners, particularly Samsung Galaxy Watch users, encountered an unexpected issue while using the app.
WhatsApp on Wear OS Issue Resolved
When users opened the app on their smartwatches, they were seeing an error message stating that they were using an outdated version of the app. This notification prompted them to update to the latest version from the Google Play Store. However, interestingly, users were already using the latest version of the app, and no new updates were available on the Play Store.

This bug rendered the app completely inoperable on the smartwatch. Users were unable to access their chats directly on the watch. However, they could respond to incoming messages through notifications displayed on the watch screen, suggesting that the app’s functionality remained partially intact.
Following a surge of user complaints, WhatsApp quickly released a new version for Wear OS. Users permanently resolved the issue by updating to the latest version from the Play Store.
Some workarounds have also emerged to address the issue. Some users resolved the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the app from their watches. Another workaround was to join the WhatsApp beta program on the Play Store and download the beta version. This beta version also resolved the issue and enabled normal use.
WhatsApp has released a new version to address the issue. If the update notification hasn’t arrived yet, it’s indicated that the rollout may be gradual. Users can check for the update directly from the Play Store or delete and reinstall the app to download the latest version to their devices.
