While Texas-based tuning company Vigilante 4×4 is generally known for its high-horsepower Hemi-powered Jeep SJ restomods, it’s now proven that the company is more than just a hot rod shop. The company has developed a custom, all-electric “skateboard” chassis designed to transform the classic Jeep Grand Wagoneer into a modern, desirable electric SUV.
Vigilante 4×4’s Electric Chassis, Engineered from the Ground Up!
The chassis was designed from the ground up using precise 3D scans of original SJ Wagoneers, Grand Wagoneers, and J-Trucks. This identified critical mounting points and equipped with lower battery packs to give the electric restomods superior weight balance, a lower center of gravity, and objectively improved ride and handling compared to their conventional combustion-engine predecessors.
This purpose-built platform delivers power to the wheels via a dual-motor system. One front-mounted motor, the other rear-mounted, provides a continuously variable all-wheel drive (AWD) system. This system delivers both high on-road performance and the kind of superior off-road capability that made the Grand Wagoneer famous.
“This is not a replacement for our Vigilante Hemi offerings,” the company’s official statement reads. “This is a completely reimagined version of the Vigilante platform under electric power.”
The Vigilante 4×4 emphasizes that the new chassis is still in the prototype phase. Therefore, no technical specifications, pricing, or range estimates are available at this time. Despite this, the response from Jeep enthusiasts has already been strong. “Remember, this is our first prototype,” a company spokesperson said. “There’s still a lot of work to be done, but the journey has begun.”
